What you're missing is that Netscape rewrote their own product from scratch. Neovim is a fork bringing very invasive changes (not rewriting from scratch) to a project by a different developer for the purpose of extending the original project in ways the current maintainer doesn't want to. So it's more like taking the old netscape code and making gecko. |
