Odd that Winer doesn't mention Google's actual attempt to do what he suggests here, which was called OpenSocial (and had buy-in from MySpace, back in 2007 when that might have mattered): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSocial I'm not sure why Google gave up on this approach, but it's not the case that no-one at Google was thinking along these lines. |
