Cool. Useless. As Don Norman might say about it years from now "it probably won an award". I have a simpler and -- I think -- demonstrably better solution: 1) A minimalist HUD overlaid on the windscreen. (As simple as possible -- an icon, text label, and a simple readout, e.g. "Nav Icon: Driver Side Climate 72°F" or "Sepulchre Ave <-- 500ft" or "FM Radio: WAMU 88.5MHz [xxx ]") Benefit: Driver's eyes stay on the road. What you're doing is utterly unambiguous. 2) Steering wheel buttons that select the mode (channel select) and value (volume buttons). For bonus points, allow two value selectors (so you can adjust station and volume in one mode Benefit: Driver's hands stay on the road. Steering wheel has touch-affordances to help you find things on it. The buttons already exist on many (most?) cars. |
