Talking strictly about UK, but I'm pretty sure this applies to majority of other countries as well. Recruiters are the firewall that surrounds absolute majority of jobs and they won't let you through unless you follow their bullshit protocols. They call you up and try to psyche you up with a position in a modern company/startup which works with new technologies like Haskell, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, etc. There's only one thing though, you have to pass their online 2 hour IKM Java 6 test to be considered... Most of the recruiters I've dealt with don't know the difference between Java and JavaScript. I think this would be a good niche for a startup - providing a service that cuts off the dead meat - incompetent recruiters.
