Red Hat gave away a lot of shares to Linux/Unix contributors. Here's an article from Eric Raymond about shares he got from VA Linux, but it mentions Red Hat doing this as well http://www.linuxtoday.com/news_story.php3?ltsn=1999-12-10-00...
