I'd like to share a couple gems that psychology has actually produced: 1. One of the most important skills for success is the ability to distract yourself from immediate desires. Delaying gratification, by looking away, thinking about something else is THE skill behind "self-control." 2. Expertise is developed in a very stable pattern of external motivation, mentoring, and consistent deliberate practice. That means 1. Surround yourself with people who are doing what you want to do 2. Find someone to TEACH you how to do what you want to do and 3. Spend 30 mins a day rising to 2 hours a day over the course of a year or two on the target of your expertise. (Spending more time on the things you suck at than the easy bits) 10k hours later you'll be an expert. Sources provided if needed! |
