There is one major difference: Since the Snowden affair, the United States no longer have allies.

The Snowden affair made ZERO difference to US alliances. Seriously zero. The US will still be able to depend on UK, JP, AU, NZ, CA, SK etc.

Alliances don't get torn up because of a bit of spying.
