It's very unfortunate. I am too scared to voice opinions on these subjects on public forums due to the potential outrage people would react with, which may effect my career.

I really think that people secretly enjoy being outraged.

People love being outraged. And, even without being outraged, having something to criticize makes writing easier and more enjoyable; it's a quick, cheap path to "flow".
