Seeing how badly people reacted on Twitter, I don't see any upside for anybody to say anything about this issue at all. Which probably won't help matters much…
Separate from the merits of the discussion, Twitter is in a phase where it LOVES to get outraged about things.
It's very mobbish right now. It's really a turn-off.
But I do think it's a fad that will self-correct. Once it goes too far people will lose followers for joining the mob-du-jour and will adjust accordingly.
