"we're not interested in anyone who wants to spend evenings and weekends with friends and family"? -- I once interviewed as a 30-something with a company that generally only hired kids right out of college with no lives. The only reason I got the job was because the guy asked a C question and told me I had the wrong answer but I told him to look in K&R and it proved I was right.

He asked me to implement strcpy(). He thought it was strcpy(from, to) - it's strcpy(to, from).
Interesting. I bet a big part of your win was not just that you were right, but that you conveyed your disagreement without being a d*ck about it. That's a lot harder than being right.
True enough. I just pointed to the K&R on his bookcase and said "Look it up".
