Fortunately with languages like Typescript and the right abstraction ,like webgl, things are going to get easier, to build complex desktop like apps like that ,which dont care about HTML semantics or SEO while still using web standards and being usable on tablets without going native. I'm a bit tired of hearing people saying their latest AngularJS "fairly large" CRUD app is the paragon of web development,it is not.
