It's not you, it's them. A rather brilliant acquaintance of mine did the whole fly-to-SF song and dance with them and didn't make the cut either. (He got snagged by a wonderful startup soon after though.)

What is important to understand here is that these processes are highly variable and there is an element of luck involved. It's just the nature of a human-driven process and a complicated organization.
