The Chromium guys really don't like to add new features based on user requests.
Here[1] they refuse to add support for SIL Graphite[2], which is essential for making text in certain languages render correctly. (Of course, Firefox already supports it.)
Comment #9 was the same guy ranting against libgraphite2's code quality, but it's been deleted now.
Thankfully, they've since changed their mind on that one. We might still see Graphite support in Chrome.
