Removing files removes a crucial feature: interoperability. This yield to programs that are ephemeral and not very suitable for production.

Removing files is in no way a plus. You could achieve better results in all aspects by providing a customizable presentation layer on top of files (that would keep the same UI, and allow interoperability; it would of course also need a proper security model)
