In case that you want to fend off eavesdropping by NSA, you shouldn't. But I simply just want to watch youtube, browse blogspot/wordpress pages and get around of the Great Fire Wall, so I do not care.

I'm not worried about NSA here: they can track my packets even if I use secure VPN software. I'm worried about the coffee-shop-WiFi variety of attacks.

You're right that PPTP is fine for your purpose.
