It's a little confusingly worded. There are two time periods being condensed in that cluster of sentences. T1 = when the kid first applied for college and told his father about wanting to go to Wake Forest, prompting the father's dismissive comments; T2 = when the son, now a freshman at the school, shows his parents around. That last sentence is also a little sloppy in its pronoun use: "he" is referring to the father, when it could conceivably (as written) be referring to the son. |
