Another linkbaity title - calling something new and trendy a bad thing will always get a lot of people rustled - from the fine elitists blogging on Medium. The UI anti pattern described is not the loading bar (as the alternative in the conclusion IS a loading bar) but the placement of the loading bar. Then again, it is pure speculation with no further data or research to back the "cognitive load" theory up.
