I think a lot of this is a side-effect of it being socially unacceptable to have 10x (or more) pay differences between good and bad employees at tech companies. That sort of thing is tolerated on Wall Street, but not SV. Prediction: SV business leaders will find a way to meaningfully tie pay to performance more than they currently can, and offer the best 3-5x what the average earn. The current system is just too roundabout. |
