If the Ubuntu Edge reaches its goal of $32,000,000, Indiegogo makes $1,280,000 off it.

I wonder why they wouldn't just set up their own crowdfunding page for this project. Surely the effort would be worth $1,280,000.
People are more likely to contribute if it's on a platform they trust and recognize.
Maybe they got a special deal.
I wouldn't be surprised if Indiegogo offered Canonical incentives to use their platform, and I wouldn't be surprised if those incentives include a significant reduction in fees.

For the next 30 days, the Indiegogo brand will be mentioned nearly every time Ubuntu Edge is discussed. That publicity alone is worth something.

But if this campaign somehow succeeds, Indiegogo will receive more than just another dose of (outrageously positive) publicity—they'll be forever known as the platform used to launched Ubuntu Edge.

Wow. Does this include PayPal's cut?
PayPal takes 2,9 to 3,9% plus a base transaction fee[0], so their share of the pie would be at least $928000.

Yes, but once you reach a certain tier per month (which indiegogo would have reached by now) this goes down to around 1.1%.
