I've found the source of the problem with moving Chromium tabs between windows. It's a bug in Chrome and its WM hints and appears in Ubuntu 12.04 because of Unity-2d: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d/+bug/9357....

I posted a work-around as a comment to the bug in Launchpad.
