Lost count of how many times this was mentioned, but it bears repeating still : You don't own what you can't control. Even if your name is on it, even if you've given it to everyone, even if you use it on a million other accounts as a means of access and an identity, you don't really own it. This is why, I still keep a contact@domain for professional work while saving all my personal stuff on Gmail locally via POP. The nice thing about HN (or the bad thing; depends on your perspective) is that it doesn't need an email. I wish more watering holes were like that. Alas, people are flaky with passwords and need resetting from time to time. |
