Although the point of the article is to identify a snowball effect with distributed solar generation vs. fossil fuel, that angle leaves out a lot. Obviously utilities companies will (try to find a way to) pivot, and provide services or guarantees that a disconnected setup would not have. Hell, they may even install panels on your roof when your house is built in exchange for discount/free energy, and sell the excess for profit. |
