Related is the term x32, which is an architecture (from the point of view of the Linux kernel) for x86-64 code designed to run in 0x86-64 32-bit mode. Why would you do this? Given that you never use 4 GB of memory, you can save a few bytes of memory (32-bit pointers instead of 64-bit) while still getting the extra registers and operations of x86-64 code. |
