Ask HN: Your thoughts on environmental issues in general?

A recent discussion on HN regarding bee colony collapse [1] made me curious as to the wider views on environmental issues within the HN community (e.g. biodiversity loss, climate change etc.)? For example, do you have utilitarian concerns (e.g. crops, livestock, potential medicines, water regulation, climate etc.) or also include more ethical considerations (e.g. protecting the planet for future generations etc.)?

I know this may come across as a leading question but I am genuinely interested as someone who has both personal and professional interests in environmental issues and tech. I'm not writing an article, dissertation, or anything like that. I promise! I have seen some interesting discussions outside of tech issues here before, so hopefully this isn't too "out there".
