Did you try creating a new gmail account with that email? If you succeed, it means no one ever received those documents :)

unfortunately it's taken and even tied to a backup AOL email (i clicked the "forgot my password" just to see if there'd be some number or alternate email. the AOL email is shown, but only as i*[e-mail].
