Your assumption that everyone knows the entire intellectual history of the ideas they espouse is a bit wrong. Furthermore, while it's true that Butler et. al are some of the more prominent proponents of 'gender is a performance', one could easily believe that gender is performative for a different reason. A implies B does not mean B implies A, and all that. |
