The Malthusian fear of overpopulation is unfounded. Most demographers expect the world population to peak between 2040 and 2050 and then begin declining. This isn't a particularly new idea, although recently it's been popularized with articles like this: http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/01/11/overcrowding-nah-the-wor... We are doing just fine limiting population growth without any difficult choices, and so is the rest of the world. Even birth rates in sub-Saharan Africa have been dropping like a stone. |
