A little bit of both. I'm not sure if you saw my previous comment, but I was also the developer of Party Buffalo [1], which is Windows-only and C#. I wanted to learn a little bit more C++ and Qt. The project was a great C# learning experience for me when I was 13 and wrote Party Buffalo because I had to develop my own I/O classes, and it involved a lot of different concepts.
