I agree with you. It's not a clear-cut answer. I'm just hoping that we think more broadly about how to actually minimize harm. If it were left to school boards, they could do things like require a stringent process to certify particular staff who have access to a cabinet, for example (this could include safety training, a background check, and psychological testing). Unfortunately, we have a zero tolerance position in most school systems (which makes sense for students, obviously). It will probably not even be considered due to existing bias. |
