Like most drugs of this class, monoamine reuptake inhibitor. It basically keeps your nerve cells from breaking down excess dopamine, seratonin, and norepinephrine. Same way MDMA, meth, etc work. The difference is really in the ratio of reuptake inhibition between neurotransmitters.

That could inevitably downregulate dopamine receptors, and so it could stop working at the same dose, otherwise risk psychosis.
