The ban problem is real, but the reason those subs ban self-promo is that unmoderated feedback spaces fill up with people posting and nobody reading. A room where everyone wants eyeballs and nobody's giving them is its own kind of dead. What forces the reading side here, is there anything a builder has to give before they can ask? |

Anyway, I think this part is too optimistic:

It's quite similar to what Product Hunt tries to do, but growing the community is hard.
