Most Westerners are, at least, ignorant of things in a non-derogatory way; they don't even know late-night anime exists, or if they do they have no strong opinions about Japan based on it. To know it exists, but to know nothing more than that, and then attribute it to being an all-encompassing problem of Japanese culture, is crossing into "unhinged Twitter weirdo" territory. Normal people don't do that. |

there are some other late-night ones I enjoyed, like Sword Art Online and Accel World, which do involve a lot of young girls that could be taken sexually, but they aren't insufferable about it (eg I think the jokes about MC being a pervert are actually funny). a lot of people apparently consider those shows examples of a disgustingly perverted creator, but it was never really overt enough to bother me. maybe the drama about them was elsewhere? not sure.
there were also some shows I enjoyed that were not late-night, like Naruto, Boruto and Bleach, but those probably don't count.
I also enjoyed ONE PIECE for a few seasons, don't remember where I left off though.
Assassination Classroom was late-night and did have some sort of fan service but not really to an obnoxious level.
BTW, I did not even know late-night anime was a thing that is apparently linked to level of fan service, I never tracked that or looked based on that. I also don't remember every media I've ever seen, because I don't really differentiate what I watch based on whether they're anime or japanese or etc.
Maybe that makes me ignorant in a lot of ways, but I've seen both a lot of people complaining about oversexualization in medias that I enjoyed, and a lot of people saying that stuff I absolutely could not stand is completely normal and expected. It's clearly a thing that many people consider all the time, based on all the complaints one way or another.
I've also witnessed a bunch of japanese stuff where young children are overrepresented other than anime, but I probably could not give specific examples because I'm really not invested into that stuff. it probably did impact my opinion of how rare it is to find young girls in japanese media that were not intended sexually, just because I've found it so difficult to avoid myself, but I think the problem still definitely exists
