Ask HN: Sectors that are inherently resistant to AI-ification?
4 points by player_piano 11 hours ago
I anticipate a raft of answers along the lines of "AI + robots will automate everything eventually", but am more interested in areas where you think there is an inherent or structural bias against near-term AI or LLM-ification. More for my own intellectual curiosity than that I'm personally looking for business niches.

For reference, I am seeing this in my own work (govauctions.app). AI can search and summarize the digital surfaces (ie government auction sites), but every large-ticket item (a vehicle, a backhoe, a house) involves a physical inspection, pickup, transportation, etc.

You may tell me that an agent can place the bid, a robot will travel in a self-driving car to do the inspection and an automated truck will haul away the tractor I bought, but I think that this future is coming to Kansas or even California far more slowly than launching a website for your restaurant.

I’m general, people like communicating with humans more than robots.

Actually, if they don’t know whether they are talking to a human or a robot through text messages, and don’t even know that a robot may be answering, they may prefer the robot. But in face to face conversations, humans win.

Otherwise not very subtile advertising from you.

Sectors that are inherently resistant to AI-ification?

Stand-up comedy, specifically including jokes that are racist and/or highly vulgar, for now at least. Someone will probably tweak a local model assuming they have not done this already.

For everything else I think it's a matter of when robot plumbers can do a better job than human plumbers without destroying a persons home, without spying on them and without being hacked by children.

>without spying on them

I wish but that really doesn't seem to be where the world is heading
