The number of crashes is not what matters. What matters is whether it is possible to hold anyone responsible for the crashes that do occur. The purpose of autonomous vehicles -- the only purpose -- is to make that impossible.

Exactly. I think of a Meta-like hole that you shout into, and no response comes back. Even for insurance claims. It's inherent to the technology. Google and every other big corp is like that online, too.
