It's apples to oranges. No matter how many reasons one has to avoid github, Codeberg is only an alternative for open source hosting.

Are there any alternatives that you could use for closed source development that aren't owned by US entities?

Be the change you want to see. Nobody is doing that outside the US because they can't get business away from GitHub, apparently.
And of course when they do try they have nothing like github's $7/month (now $4) base subscription. They want 19.99 per user per month.

And then they wonder why they go bankrupt like those dignified German car manufacturers. It's because people can't afford them.
