Not just you. There's been a huge pushback in the local music community around this. Concerts listings now prominently feature the name of the poster designer! Humans FTW.

One of the coolest things about seeing a show at the Fillmore is getting the posters they hand out. A number of bands sell, or have their artists, sell show posters (which then become collectible limited editions); it's way less offensive when it's King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard than when it's Wizards of the Coast.
Going back over a decade (ETA, actually, wow, over two decades), I used to go to shows, not only to see the bands, but also to make sure I got the poster. This one, made by Tim Gough, escaped me: http://www.oldskull.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/timgough-...

A friend also called this the “Party Cannon effect”, in reference to black metal festival posters. When lavish detail is available at the push of a button, simplicity stands out far more.

For a bit of context, Party Cannon is a death metal band with this logo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_Cannon#/media/File:Party...
That XKCD idea is basically the Swedish Blåvitt product line that existed during the 80s and early 90s.
Or the contemporary "no name" brand in Canada.

Germany also has some product lines that have similar brutalist design
Finally! We need more of this. It did happen sometimes in the past, but not nearly as often as it should.
