I'm a little surprised that there haven't been reclamation efforts to use the Sodium Chloride they're pulling out of the ground, repurposed for industry.

I'm guessing the $$ just don't make sense.

Yeah, same here. Hell, Netherlands ran out of salt for road use in 2010. They use ~0.5 million tons a year - 2 weeks worth of K+S waste.
