This blanket assumption that Chinese AI models are a threat is really silly. We need to be able to separate security concerns with concerns about competition. The media at large seems unable to distinguish this and it is really annoying.

AI policy should not focus on where a model is developed. It should focus on its capabilities, transparency, and deployment risks.

These articles are propaganda, it’s not an independent journalist writing it, they’re doing it at the behest of Anthropic or someone like them that’s pushing for regulatory capture.
I know, but it just seems that so much journalism is propaganda (as you put it) at the moment. It is really sad and a big shame that is holding back proper needed debates and discussion. Especially on an important emerging tech like AI.
