New mandatory Gmail, your Android backup storage needs may increase

We (wife and I) just received emails from Gmail stating effective 45 days from now, "all data included in your Android device backups will begin counting toward your Google Account storage limit. Photos and videos in Google Photos and MMS data already count toward your Google Account storage today."

I'm glad they pasted an estimated increase at the bottom of the email, it doesn't change too much for us but I imagine anyone already close to their storage limit will be affected.

I had to look at my phone's backup settings just now, there's not really all that much being backed up but there's some apps that I had no idea were being backed up at all (and I didn't think they made much sense either).

Anyway, for anyone who's using an Android phone, this is probably a good time to check and see what's getting backed up to Google, because some of that stuff is probably not necessary.
