In college in Brazil, the rich engineering students had HPs (41s first, 48s later) while the average kid had a CASIO. The really lucky ones had a BASIC-powered calculator. I was very lucky in getting a PB-700. Not much memory, but allowed me to quickly translate a FORTRAN program to BASIC to do a table-run during a test.
