PSA: In long-term fire abstinent areas, old growth trees can be saved from excessive scorching in fires by preventatively clearing built-up debris (combustible fuel) under the canopy and beside the trunk. Shovel and/or rake.

I've worked in some rather dense undergrowth and forest debris, but not done this particular sort of forest works. Still...
