Desktop environments have improved so many times over IMO. KDE and Gnome are legitimately high-performance and extremely usable - more so than Windows or Mac in my experience. Yes theming in particular has gotten complex, but that's largely because of the application domain. We now abuse electron for everything. And, if it's any consolation, it's still 100x better than Windows, which can't decide on less than 12 themes for its own built-in applications, let alone third-party apps. |
