All I'm doing is here is saying that there's nothing inherently bad about someone deciding they don't want a particular symbol to randomly show up in their generated QR codes.

The pushback I'm getting for expressing that opinion is bizarre.

The pushback is against the situation that a fewer people want to suppress a symbol THEY co-opted, while other, possibly a majority of people prefer the freedom to continue using it.

Imagine banning "Allah Akbar" after 9/11

or banning the Christian cross because of the atrocities committed during the Crusades

A software library that omits specific randomly generated patterns from a QR code is not "banning" anything.
