Farage could easily have declared the gift/bribe and thus complied with the rules. He decided to not declare it, presumably because of how dodgy it looks and now has to face the consequences, although he's now "resigned" as an MP in an attempt to avoid scrutiny. Personally, I don't think that "resignation" is really what he did if he's standing for re-election - it's a publicity stunt that has ended up making him look ridiculous. There's also a few complaints of money laundering with the various "gifts" that he received which may be one reason that he's tried so hard to avoid any scrutiny. Also, it doesn't really enhance his "man of the people" act. |
