I don't get this article. Physical medium are by design control-free. You will be forever be to watch any movie you buy in a DVD or Blu-Ray format. That's not the case in digital format. Talking about pipe dreams about companies/government forcing companies to somehow allow digital key or more precisely accounts associated with keys to be maintained forever (or at least for the next 100 years) is a pipe dream. Physicam games are a way to ensure you still own your games.[1] [1] A lot of caveats to what I said, mainly due to the fact that gaming consoles are now Internet-connected so the console-maker could technically revoke access to any game at any time if you connect it to the internet. Still, it would be a huge huge breach of trust, and as such very unlikely. |
