While it makes sense for government to sponsor the humanities and arts, much as it does museums, many educational institutions, or more precisely specific departments, mislead students into applying for graduate programs with dim career prospects by exaggerating job opportunities. This is to further their turf in internecine battles, but saddles those students with crushing debt and little prospects of discharging it.
