On (A), what I - and I am sure most of the commenters here (epically the ones that did not read the article :-) - am uneasy about is that, intentions of these researchers notwithstanding, if it’s possible to generate videos to optimize for brain activation patterns, it feels inevitable that the Facebooks and Kalshis of this world will use this to generate videos that are engineered to be maximally addictive.

Perhaps we’re naive and this is a long way from being possible - but it seems like the way this is heading eventually and that seems obviously bad for society.
