I agree that Americans themselves are the root cause. Americans as a society are deeply, pathologically unwell and Trump is entirely their fault. I have no sympathy for any of them.

But only one person is the commander in chief of the US military, and the checks and balances that are supposed to keep him in control are not functioning.

You know, not all of us wished for him. Many of us not only saw all this coming from a mile away, but also fought against it every step of the way.

I would not say have pity for everyone, but at least have pity for those incompatible with our cruel society who are nevertheless stuck within it.

It's not an excuse. Many of us saw this coming as far back as 2016, and tried every step of the way to fight against Trump's rise to power.

We are not all monsters. It's as simple as that.
