First open source project, any experience sharing?
1 points by mrhustlex 31 days ago
Hi everyone, I am currently working in one of the Mag7, would like to work on a weekend project.

Due to the lack of time, I feel like opensourcing the project would lead to the most efficiency. Is there any advice for those who do the first opensource project?

Double check company policies and make sure you don't violate them. You probably don't want to end up like this person (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48649011)

Scratch your own itch, don't expect much from others, most open source software gets few eyes and usage.

Good README, docs, and simple setup go a long way to getting people to try it.

Above all else, have fun!

The "... would lead to the most efficiency" is a curious statement, what are your goals for the project?

thanks for the tips, will check the threads.

Since I think vibe coding is popular now, idea implementation becomes easy. Opensourcing hopes to get more idea about how people think efficiently
