I would like to know in many cases to form my own opinion of whether it was sufficiently offensive to justify the reaction and consequences so I also find it really annoying.

You can deduce its some form of sexual jokes though, most likely innuendo. What we do not know is how bad it was.

One side says it was humor. The other side says it was not humor. Without more information we can't know if it was humor or not.
